Paul A. Spagnuolo, Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons).
I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Ontario Cancer Institute in the Department of Cancer Genomics and Proteomics at Princess Margaret Hospital.
I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo in the faculty of Applied Health Sciences in the fall of 2008. My research examined the ability of bovine lactoferrin, a dietary milk protein, to reduce the tumor promoting process of inflammation in the colon. I completed my MSc. in 2004 and my undergraduate degree (in 2002) both at the University of Guelph. I completed six months of my Master's research at University College Cork in Cork City, Ireland. It was an excellent opportunity to work and live with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and an incredible learning experience. I was also able to work with a number of renowned dairy and polymer chemists from which I was able to learn a great deal.
I have also had numerous teaching experiences. In the fall of 2006, I was the instructor for a third year immunology course at the University of Waterloo. I have been a teaching assistant for many different courses and was the co-ordinator and instructor for a science based annual youth program in which elementary school students learned about the different science programs at the University of Guelph.
I am very active in the community as well. I am a committee member of the University of Guelph's Men's Soccer Alumni Association. I organize and coordinate a co-ed adult soccer league. I have been a big brother volunteer and have been a tutor and coach. Extracurricular activities include soccer, swimming, hockey, basketball and fishing.
